Founded in 1913 by the Science Teachers’ Bureau, the Boston Children’s Museum is the second oldest children’s museum in the world and one of the few that maintain a collection. The Cobb House, located in Brewster, MA, is a museum listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally constructed in 1799, the building has been renovated to reflect the era in which it was built and includes the original exterior shutters, found in a barn on the property. Exhibits, both permanent and rotating, display historical artifacts collected by the Brewster Historical Society, including home furnishings, textiles, tools, and clothes, among other things—and art. A number of these items are related to the seafaring business of original homeowner Captain Elijah Cobb, including a heavy anchor and an exploding harpoon. Please check the website for schedule.

The Cape Cod Museum of Art, located in Dennis, MA, was founded by artists in 1981. Seven galleries at the museum display changing exhibitions as well as pieces from the permanent collection, which includes work by Hans Hoffman, Alexander Calder, Red Grooms, and Edwin Dickinson. The house is a 200-year-old-plus former sea captain's home that is the site of a museum dedicated to the life and work of the author, illustrator, playwright, set and costume designer Edward Gorey who lived there from 1986 until he died. His visual style was thoroughly unique and recognizable—his subject matter sometimes reflected his interest in animals, particularly cats. The house and its annual exhibits are open to the public from April through December.

Heritage Museums & Gardens is located on 100 acres on the banks of Shawme Pond in Sandwich, MA. The gardens feature internationally important collections of rhododendrons, a comprehensive collection of hydrangeas, a collection of over 1,000 varieties of daylilies, hostas, herb, heather gardens, and more than a thousand varieties of trees, shrubs and flowers along paths. An outdoor “Nature Explore Classroom” facilitates encounters with nature and STEM concepts for children ages 2 through 10. In addition, three gallery buildings house permanent exhibits of world-class automobiles, a working vintage carousel, American folk art, and special exhibitions. There is a café and gift shop on the premises.

The building that houses the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston on Fan Pier is the first in the US designed by the architectural firm of Diller Scofidio + Renfro. The museum was founded in 1936 as a sister institution to New York’s MoMA, though it had no permanent collection until starting one after moving into the new building on the waterfront in 2006. In addition to the collection, changing exhibitions, music, dance, film, talks, tours, family activities, and teen programming are offered throughout the year.

The Gardner Museum houses the collection of Isabella Stewart Gardner, a local patron of the arts who died in 1924, in a building she commissioned to look like a 15th century Venetian palazzo. The center of the original building showcases courtyard plantings that reflect the seasons as they evolve throughout the year. In addition to her collection, which remains displayed exactly she arranged it per her will, there are changing exhibitions, concerts, lectures, family events, and an artist-in-residence program. In 2012, the museum opened an addition designed by Renzo Piano that houses a space for their concert series.

This vehicle hangtag pass is valid for free parking for one passenger vehicle that is registered in Massachusetts.  It must be displayed in the vehicle at all times while visiting a Massachusetts State Park facility where daily parking fees are charged.

The Parks Pass can be picked up at the library on the reserved date. The pass needs to be returned to the library before the opening of the next day. Passes can be placed in the book drop after hours.

The New England Aquarium is home to thousands of aquatic animals, from the giant Pacific octopus to Northern fur seals to little blue penguins. The Sandwich Glass Museum is dedicated to the history of the town in which it is located, with a special emphasis on the glass that made it famous in the 19th century. The museum, a part of the Boston National Historical Park, is located in the Charlestown Navy Yard near the ship USS Constitution (“Old Ironsides”) at the end of Boston’s Freedom Trail. The museum provides a detailed look at the history of the ship, information about the war of 1812, and the battle between the ship and HMS Java. Stories are told through interactive exhibits, unique artifacts, archival records, and artwork. The museum also includes a research library which houses a strong collection of manuscripts, books, artifacts, and microfilm of primary source material. The ship itself is maintained by the US Navy, and may be visited free of charge on certain days.

This museum in West Yarmouth is home to the largest collection of pirate artifacts recovered from a single shipwreck—the Whydah Gally—anywhere in the world. Originally a slave ship, the pirate vessel sank off the coast of Wellfleet in 1717.
