Learn about the muralist Mantra, who paints giant trompe l'oeil insect shadow boxes on the sides of buildings around the world. You'll view slides of his work and pictures of the Harry C. Belcher Lepidoptera (butterfly & moth) Collection that's housed at Tufts Library in Weymouth Massachusetts.

Using images of butterflies, moths and beetles as reference, draw and paint your own realistic or imaginative insects and mount it in a paper shadow box.

This program is recommended for kids 8 and up.

Registration is required for this event. A video of the program will be available to watch on our website on Tuesday, 04/19/2022 and all registered participants will get an email with a link for it. Registered participants should also come to the library the week before the program to pick up an art kit, filled with supplies to make your own shadow box.
