Discovery & Enrichment Series: Courageous Conversations
Domestic and sexual violence cases come in many forms and are often unrecognized by others and underreported. Chris Morin, Director of Prevention, Education, and Outreach at Independence House, will provide a brief overview of the organization’s services, describe the signs of abuse, and explain what individuals can do as active bystanders to support survivors. She will also present a community prevention strategy with action steps.
Independence House is the Cape’s leading resource, counseling, and advocacy center to address and prevent domestic and sexual violence among children, teens, and adults. The organization has offices in Hyannis, Falmouth, Orleans, and Provincetown, and maintains both a 24-hour hotline and a confidential emergency domestic and sexual violence shelter residence on Cape Cod.
Morin has worked in the field of domestic and sexual violence for 19 years and has been with Independence House for 12 years. In her current role, she oversees the grant that focuses on the prevention of sexual violence against people with disabilities. She co-facilitates the Cape & Islands Enough Abuse Campaign, and represents Independence House on the Yarmouth Age Friendly Committee and the Cape Cod Elder Abuse Coalition.
This program will be offered in person and via Zoom. For more information, contact BLLAEvents@BrewsterLadiesLibrary.org .
